Stress

Many people who attend reflexology state that they are suffering with stress. As humans, we are designed to live a balanced life, including time to work, play and rest.  Busy work, family life, and all kinds of other challenges can upset this balance. Whilst we are wired to deal with short bursts of stress, following which we return to our balanced state.  However, long term  or repeated stress can result in us living in a permanent survival mode.

This state of chronic stress impacts us physically and mentally and can result in a myriad health problems.

By inducing a state of relaxation, Reflexology can help relieve stress. Relaxation reduces the release of the body’s fight or flight hormones, thus improving well being.  In addition, muscular tension reduces, circulation can improve and endorphins (the feel good hormones) are released.  All this can help restore balance and improve relaxation and sleep, and clients usually report a lifted mood and a general feeling of well being after treatment.

In addition to easing stress, reflexology can support overall well being and help to:

  • ease general aches and pains
  • relieve headaches and migraines
  • ease back pain
  • relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia
  • ease symptoms of CFS/ME
  • ease symptoms of PMS
  • improve circulation
  • alleviate skin problems
  • relieve symptoms of hay fever/asthma

Your first appointment will be longer than subsequent ones because your full medical history will be taken.  You will also be asked to sign a consent form and both documents will be stored in accordance with GDPR requirements.

You will then be invited to remove your shoes and socks and can lie on a treatment table. You can sit upright, or lie back – whichever is more comfortable for you. A pillow and warm blanket are supplied for your comfort.

I will use my hands to apply gentle pressure to your feet, and your leg (to about three inches above your ankles). I use the Duopody method, which involves treating both feet simultaneously.

Most find the treatment to be extremely relaxing, and many fall asleep.

Although Reflexologists cannot diagnose illness, they can use their diagnostic skills to identify areas of imbalance, and work specifically on those areas.  This means that subsequent treatments can be planned and tailor made for each client.

Each client is different, and can respond to reflexology in many ways.  Some feel an immediate response, and others need around 4 or 5 before realising the benefit.

Regular weekly treatments are best for the client when they first receive reflexology, then move to fortnightly or monthly as required. Following an initial consultation, I will suggest the number of Reflexology sessions we should undertake, but am aware that finance is always a consideration.  Together, we can work out a schedule which is affordable and effective.

Specific aftercare can be discussed with you following treatment, but as a minimum, please avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel drowsy or sleepy.

It is important that you try to continue to relax and that you drink plenty of water after your appointment because your body is still responding to the treatment.  It would also be beneficial (but not essential) to avoid alcohol and heavy meals for about 24 hours.

Clients are kindly requested to give 48 hrs notice of cancellation. Cancellation notice of fewer than 24 hours will be charged in full.
